Brampton Library offers a range of assistive technology programs and equipment that are helpful to users with different types of disabilities.
Adjustable workstations allow for adjustment to a height not normally possible with a standard desk to cater for specialized seating arrangements and unique physical needs. Available at Four Corners and Chinguacousy.
This web-based program helps website visitors who require online reading support and those who simply prefer to listen to information instead of reading it. Those with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia or mild visual impairments, and those with English as a second language find BrowseAloud Plus particularly useful. It works by reading website content out loud using a natural and engaging voice. New features include: Translator, Simplifier, Screen Masking for Touch Screens and the ability to personalize the settings to suit individual needs and preferences. Other features include: Dual-Colour Highlighting, Text Magnification, MP3 Maker, Secure Site Reading, PDF Reading, Pronunciation Modifier and International Languages. Expert Trackball Mouse
This large trackball requires less fine motor control and allows for more accurate movements. Large buttons make clicking easier. Available at Four Corners, South Fletchers, Chinguacousy, Cyril Clark, and Mount Pleasant Village.
Large Screen Monitors
Allows for better zoom capability when using software such as ZoomText. Available at Four Corners, South Fletchers, and Chinguacousy.
Large Print Keyboards
This keyboard is used for various disabilities as it has a bigger and bolder typeface and they keys are easier to see. This provides a comfortable typing experience for users. Available at Four Corners, South Fletchers, Chinguacousy, Cyril Clark, and Mount Pleasant Village.
Magnifying sheets are held directly above the surface to be magnified and have a low magnification. This assists with enlarging the size of the print on reading materials. Available at Four Corners, Chinguacousy, Gore Meadows, and Mount Pleasant Village.
This black-and-white magnifier displays printed materials in high-contrast black text on a white background or white text on a black background. Available at Four Corners and Chinguacousy.
Victor Reader Classic
Simple to use, the Victor Reader Classic is ideal for leisure reading, bestsellers, novels, magazines, etc. It offers basic navigation features that will allow you to use a table of contents or skip from section to section or page to page. Brampton Library owns two readers that customers can borrow for three weeks.
A tool for persons with disabilities or elderly people who need additional support to maintain balance or stability while walking. Available at Cyril Clark, Chinguacousy, Four Corners, and South Fletchers.
ZoomText is a program that magnifies the computer screen for visually impaired users. This program also has the ability to speak to the user as he/she works. Available at Four Corners, Chinguacousy and Cyril Clark.
