Summer Art Challenge

Do you love making art? Whether you are an emerging or professional artist, or an art enthusiast, our Summer Art Challenge is for you! As a registered participant in this program, you will receive a bi-weekly email of an art project involving photography, paint, textiles, and/or paper, every other week, from July 3 to August 28, 2023. With your free Brampton Library card, we invite you to use our Library resources to complete your projects, then email them for potential display and to earn extra ballots towards our Teen and Adult Summer Reading Club prize draws. A panel of local artists and art groups will judge participants’ submissions. More information will be provided upon registration. This program is open to everyone aged 14+.

Ready to learn more? Here’s how our Summer Art Challenge works:

  1. There are four (4) biweekly cycles. Participants will receive an email at the beginning of each cycle on Monday at 10 a.m. The email will ask participants to complete an art activity using Library resources provided to help complete the activity. Click here to register anytime.
  2. There are four activities in the Summer Art Challenge, in the following categories: Photography, Paint, Textiles/Fabrication, and Paper. All activities are to be completed on your own time and at your own pace.
  3. Every time you complete an activity, please send an image of it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., along with your full name. Your submission will be assessed by a panel of local artists for a chance to be placed on display at a Brampton Library branch.  Your submissions will also earn extra ballots into the Teen or Adult Summer Reading Club prize draws.   4. Watch for our bi-weekly emails, which will include many more details about each Summer Art Challenge activity. You may choose to submit an activity at the end of each two-week period, or anytime up to and including the final deadline of August 28, 2023. All winners will be announced on Friday, September 8, 2023.

Meet the Summer Art Challenge Judges

Help a Girl Out is a non-profit organization based in Brampton and devoted to addressing period poverty at home and abroad. Help a Girl Out will be facilitating Intro to Sewing: Reusable Pads classes every Monday from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at various branches throughout the summer.

Malachi Watson-Narcisse is a Brampton based artist/creative. His art uses a visual vocabulary that includes contrast, colour and balance to highlight a diverse range of subjects with the hope of fostering a sense of community and connection.

Megha is a collaging artist who holds a diploma in Fashion Techniques and Design from George Brown College and a Master’s degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing from Polimoda in Florence, Italy. Megha will also be facilitating two collaging workshops at Brampton Library throughout the summer. Learn more here and here.

Sabbie Narwal is a GTA-based artist and designer. She is the founder of The PaperNarwhal, a stationery, gift and home goods brand offering warm and whimsical art to uplift, inspire and comfort. Learn more here.

Sandra Gilmer is a member of the Brampton Quilters' Guild Executive team and previous Guild President. Her quilts and beading projects have earned acclaim at various art shows throughout the City. Learn more about the Guild here.

Saphera Peters is a local Brampton artist and curator who uses bold colours, movement, and imagery inspired by her South Asian culture to create joyful designs. A few of her clients include CBC KW, The University of Waterloo and the City of Brampton. Learn more here.

Rhea Puri is a visual artist, designer and DJ who loves art that infuses spaces with bold colour palettes, transforming ideas into experiences. Her vision is rooted in advancing consciousness, sustainable cities, seeking enlightenment, and adding beauty to everyday environments. Learn more here and here.
