Acceptable ID

Getting a Brampton Library card? What ID do you need?

To sign up for a Brampton Library card, you will need to show identification that confirms your name and address.

Adults (16 and older)

The easiest option is to show one piece of photo ID with your name and current address, such as:

  • Driver's license
  • Ontario Photo ID card (over 16 years of age)

If you do not have one of these, bring:

a. One piece of photo ID with your name and photo, such as:

  • Passport
  • Citizenship card or certificate
  • Permanent resident card
  • Employee ID
  • Student card

and

b. One document verifying proof of address, showing the name as provided, alongside your current address. Examples include:

  • a current bill or invoice
  • current lease
  • current legal document
  • any piece of mail showing name and address
  • school report card or registration papers

Photo ID must be original documents (no electronic copies). Proof of address can be presented electronically.

Teens (13 – 15 years)

You can use the same ID options as adults. If you don’t have those, you can show one of the following:

  • Parent/guardian’s current Brampton Library card
  • Parent/guardian's ID
  • Student card
  • School report card

Children (12 and under)

Your parent or guardian’s ID will be used to confirm your name and address.

Temporary Addresses

If you’re staying at a temporary address, bring:

a. One piece of ID (from the lists above)

and

b. A letter from the place where you are staying or a copy of your rental agreement that shows the dates of your stay.
