Brampton Library’s Chinguacousy Branch is planning a future move as Toronto Metropolitan University’s new School of Medicine will be housed in the Brampton Civic Centre, where the branch is currently located. This page has been set up to answer your questions and will be updated as more information becomes available.

When is the Chinguacousy branch moving?

Toronto Metropolitan University has given notice that the Library is to vacate the building by August 2023. Working closely with the City of Brampton, we have identified a new location for the branch in the immediate area and are committed to ensuring that the move results in as little interruption in service as possible. We will inform the community of the timing of the move as soon as we can.

Where will this branch be located?

We are planning for the new location to be located in the building known as the Chinguacousy Park Ski Chalet at 9050 Bramalea Rd.

Will it be close to the existing branch?

The Ski Chalet was chosen as the new branch because of its proximity to the Bramalea area. It is located at a 1.5 km walking distance from the current location (about 2 km driving) in the north-east corner of Chinguacousy Park. It is accessible from walking routes within the Park as well as from a parking lot with an entrance on Central Park Dr.

Will the same services be available at the new location?

The new branch will continue to offer a selection of books and other materials, computer access, study space, various programs and makerspace services. It will unfortunately not accommodate the recording studio currently housed in the Chinguacousy Branch. It must be noted that the new branch is considerably smaller and that the Library continues to pursue a long term solution.

What does the new School of Medicine mean to the Library?

Brampton Library and the City of Brampton share the value of academic success while at the same time acknowledging that the change will cause disruption in the community, and that the new location for Chinguacousy Branch Library, while it is the most usable of the existing buildings in the area, has space limitations that affect Library service.
